Including standout items like the luxe Barrel chair and Heirloom Velvet quilt

Jeremiah Brent is bringing his signature style to Crate & Kids with a new collection launching on September 10. Known for his sophisticated yet livable approach to design, Brent’s kid and baby furniture collection is all about creating spaces that feel timeless and meaningful, where children can play, grow, and thrive. Inspired by designing his own children’s rooms, this collection features thoughtfully crafted pieces that are “made to collect, layer, and last.”

The collection includes versatile furniture, decor, and textiles, such as the Arline Full Bed with secret storage drawers, ideal for maximizing space, and the Heirloom Organic Cotton Velvet Quilt, a luxe, reversible option that’s both stylish and practical. Jeremiah’s use of high-quality, sustainable materials like organic cotton and FSC-certified wood ensures these pieces are as eco-conscious as they are beautiful.

“Design should never be too precious, too serious,” says Brent. “There’s nothing our kids have to tiptoe around—livability is what makes a house a home.”

One standout piece is the Barrel Chair, an “adult” fabric favorite reimagined for kids. Upholstered in plush velvet, this round, low-profile chair adds a touch of luxury to any child’s room while maintaining a playful and approachable design. Perfect for cozy reading nooks or imaginative play areas, the Barrel Chair brings sophistication to children’s spaces without sacrificing comfort.

Jeremiah Brent’s signature flair for mixing textures, as seen in the pairing of wood, cane, and velvet across the collection, also shines through in pieces like the Collector’s Cane Desk and Desk Chair, designed with timeless elegance and practicality in mind.

Brent’s new collection launches as he continues to make waves in the design world—and beyond. Recently announced as the newest cast member of Queer Eye, Brent is set to join the Fab Five in their mission to transform lives through design, fashion, and culture. Known for his warm, approachable style, Jeremiah’s addition to the beloved show brings his expertise to a broader audience, further solidifying his reputation as a design visionary with a heart for making spaces as beautiful as they are functional.

The Teddy Sherpa Lumbar pillow and Cobalt Accent Bolster pillow make a case for snuggly pops of texture.

“There’s a misconception that children’s rooms have to be temporary,” says Brent. “These are pieces they can grow with and take with them when they’re decorating their first apartment.”

Jeremiah Brent’s collection for Crate & Kids embraces both practicality and charm, designed for the way families live today—balancing beauty with durability, and creating dream spaces that evolve as children do.

Okay, but it clearly is

For the first 16 years of my life, the bat cave at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)—a reconstruction of an actual cave in Jamaica—was among my favourite places in the city. The cave was decorated with cast stalactites and wax bat models, which hung from the ceiling and threw jagged shadows on the walls. A few other features imbued it with spooky verisimilitude: the drip-drip-drip sound effects, the mirrors arranged to create the illusion of infinite depth, the strobe lights strategically placed to make the shadows flutter. When I visited as a five-year-old, the bat cave scared me. When I visited as a stoned fifteen-year-old, it scared me even more. Then came the renovation.
